Where My $7 Goes
Ever wonder why OCC requests $7 for each box?  Where is that $7 used for?  Well, here's a breakdown for the 4,900,000 shoe boxes from the U.S.:

  • Delivery by semi from 315 collection centers to 9 processing centers
  • Leasing of 9 processing centers at $80,000-100,000 per site
  • Delivery by 3,300, 20x8x8' overseas shipping containers at approx. $3,000-5,000/container
  • Cost of cartons, brochures, DVDs. Mailbox Club discipleship materials, booklets, bibles etc.
  • Administration costs of less than 10%, one of the lowest
  • Publicity & marketing costs
Actually, OCC total international costs for 2006 for 7.2m boxes were $145,700,000 or approx. $20/box when all the costs are factored in.  Avg. giving for 2008 was $5.17/box.  OCC has some very generous supporters!
The OCC project doesn't stop when the shoe box is distributed; follow up discipleship includes lessons and a Bible for each child that graduates.  Last yr. over 1,000,000 children graduated.
